Marcus Sloan and his Ballout Events company opened the second week of the July live period at ‘The Gym’ facility in Humble, Texas. With several games on the evening I was treated to a matchup featuring some of Houston’s best in the class of 2020.

The 15U Houston Defenders of the Under Armour Association took on a scrappy Cooz Elite squad. Several players made an impact for both teams in a heated battle that ended in a Cooz Elite victory, 62-61.

Here is who stood out on opening night:

5’6 Braelon Bush, Houston Defenders

At 5’6, Bush is a blur and a load to defend. With an array of change of pace moves and speed bursts he finds seams with relative ease.

6’2 Kevin Mars jr., Houston Defenders

Mars Jr. was on fire. The 6’2 lefty hit four three pointers and displayed his above average athleticism.

6’6 Eddie Lampkin jr., Houston Defenders

Lampkin was the biggest player on the floor and he used his size to punish defenders inside and assert himself on the offensive and defensive glass.

6’3 Hayden Hefner, Houston Defenders

Hefner was the most athletic player on the floor and can play both on and off the ball. He showcased his ridiculous bounce on an alley-oop finish from Bush.

6’1 D’Avian Houston, Cooz Elite

A lefty with a strong straight line game, Houston was a competitor from the tip and was the catalyst for many of his team’s runs.

6’2 Jahari Long, Cooz Elite

Long is a floor general with a knee scraping wing span and a crafty handle.

6’4 Timothy Moore jr., Cooz Elite

Moore had a nice put-back dunk in traffic and a big block on Lampkin jr. during his team’s comeback run.
